We started with a day of ice hiking, with a wonderful guide by the name of Joda. Hanging out with Joda was actually as enjoyable as being shown around the glacier itself, Joda was calm, relaxed, enthused and capable and the glacier was a series of hidden nooks and crannies with formations and shapes to investigate. Joda genuinely wanted us to get as much out of the experience as possible. Seriously nice guy. We then did ice caving with Marje, who, quite honestly, is the MOST excitable and enthusiastic young woman I think I’ve ever met! She was SO proud of these caves, and rightly so, as she had hunted them out herself … very safety conscious and compassionate (Marje, don’t forget the MnM’s!!). We then decided to do the 2 hour tour around the ‘town’ which was with Joda also (multi talented lot). Again, informative, interesting and very enjoyable. Staff in the ‘shop’ were organized and efficient, friendly and knowledgeable so really nothing to warrant anything but 5 stars. We were both really saddened to leave McCarthy/Kennecott, and that’s saying something as we live in the Caribbean.

We signed up for the full day of ice hiking. We got fitted for our crampons and headed out, only 3 of us on the tour. After about a 2 mile walk to the moraine, we put on our crampons and headed for the ice. The glacier is beautiful, filled with funnels, channels, waterfalls, caves and shapes. I stopped counting the cravasis we jumped over (honestly – mostly small and we could just step over).
Our guide Scott was wonderful, informative and knowledgable. He was very safety conscious and aware of the dangers. He genuinely loves what he was doing and enjoyed sharing it with us.
I didn’t have a problem getting used to walking with the crampons. Our weather wasn’t the best but it was a great day anyway! Great tour! Great guide! I would recommend this tour to everyone. It is one of my all time favorites.

Orginally, I signed up for a full day glacier hike. Caught a bad cold in Seward and they moved me to a shorter hike and refunded the difference. We(5) were out for 5 hrs and had the best time of our lives. Seth was knowledgeable and a great guide. He even fixed us hot cocoa/cider while on top of Root Glacier. The views will knock you out.

The guide is very nice and informative. He took us to explore a small ice cave. That is an extremely memorable experience. We also see a few icefalls. First time hike on glacier.

Booked a First Ascent climb with St. Elias Alpine Guides based out of McCarthy, AK this past June, 2015. I was looking for a true wilderness alpine climb in a most remote setting. Our lead guide was Scott Hamilton Peters and assistant guide was Kristin Arnold. Super nice people and fantastic guides. We flew onto a glacier adjacent to our 2 objectives, Peak 11,191 and Peak 8,615 near Mt. Blackburn. We summited both despite some fairly nasty weather. Logistics, food, equipment were all exceptional. St. Elias Alpine Guides is a top notch company. Delivers what is promised and much more. I’m going back this June to attempt Mt. Blackburn with SEAG. Ask for Scott & Kristin…you won’t be disappointed.
