Loved it 2 great lessons with Peter taught me the fundamentals of “climbing the wall” and what fun to just walk back down. Repelling is a blast and i plan to do more in the future. Taos has a lot of locations to enjoy the rocks and i vote Mountain skills the best company to go with!
i was able to compete with my name sakes!
    Lizard,
Not a visit, i live here, but would say a “must do”.

We had a group of 20 climbers of widely ranging skill sets who wanted an afternoon of climbing in the Red Rocks. Mt. Skills provided 5 guides and all the gear. The location was perfect for a group: a variety of top-roping problems; a centralized area with good spectating; and shade. The guides were highly skilled, very encouraging and extremely accommodating. None of the guides demonstrated any of the attitude one sometimes gets from mountain guides; these people were true professionals.

I can’t recommend enough Dan Young of Mountain Skills Rock Guides. He was our guide in Red Rock Canyon, Nevada. He put safety first, and is an incredibly knowledgeable climber. He knew the park like the back of his hand and had even created many of the climbing trails himself! He belayed our two children, ages 7 and 9, and he was encouraging and patient with them. Both kids had climbed multiple times at an indoor rock gym, but this was their first “real” climb, and they reached 80 feet! Dan’s laid-back attitude fit in perfectly with our vacationers’ mindset. We hope to have another opportunity to climb with Mountain Skills Rock Guides at some point in the future.

Wonderful experience!! I’m an old rock climbing/caving vet, but really enjoyed Red Rock Canyon. The area is very different from what I’m used to. Dan was an awesome guide with solid climbing skills and experience. He did an excellent job of assessing my background as well as my current level of fitness (not great after partying all winter) to find a climb that was a perfect fit. I’d definitely recommend this company to beginners as well as experienced climbers. Awesome!!!!

A wonderful day out with a top class guide in one of my favorite climbing destinations, Red Rocks NV.
Superb weather did not hurt. I thoroughly recommend using Mountain Skills and ask for Tracy as a guide, you won’t go wrong.

My wife and I went climbing with guide Dan Young and the experience was great. Dan tailored the session to our skill level, taking us on part of a multi-pitch climb and reviewing anchor techniques and rappels. He knew a great deal on the geography and geology of the rocks we were climbing. Dan also recommended other hikes and trails for us to visit for the next day of our overall visit to Las Vegas.

The time flew by WAY too quickly.

Dan is an excellent teacher and guide. Mountain Skills was a great company to interact with on the planning and logistics of the trip as well.

A friend and I booked a beginners course with Peter through Mountain Skills and had a wonderful time. Peter was great–very professional and completely safety oriented. I was given great instruction and got to learn more about equipment and technique. I would definitely recommend Mountain Skills Rock Guides and Peter!

We booked a day w/ Dan for our family – 3 kids ages 8, 10, and 12 plus myself. The two older ones had experience in climbing gyms, but this was their first time on a real rock. The youngest had no experience at all. Dan did really great job with the kids. He both taught and demonstrated safety, and he had a real knack for providing just the right amount of encouragement and instruction and for challenging the kids at the right level. By the end of the day, he had the bigger kids on 100′, 5.8 pitches, and the younger one (usually a timid child) was 60′ up a face by herself and loving it! We highly recommend Dan for 1st timers and kids – great skills, great attitude, great teaching, and enormous patience.
